Structured to provide a unique
balance of various Indian physical traditions and aesthetics
with contemporary dance and new developments in lighting,
stagecraft and digital technology, the Diploma includes classes
in critical theory and arts management besides academic subjects
like art history, philosophy, pedagogy, and anatomy in the
curriculum.
The Diploma prepares technically sound and strong performers
adept in varied movement approaches. Drawing upon the conceptual
tools of philosophy, aesthetics and art history in an intellectually
stimulating and supportive environment, the programme encourages
students to evolve into creative, aware and thinking practitioners
of the art of dance and dance-making.
Attakkalari’s pioneering research over the past years
into Indian physical traditions and the wealth of knowledge
from its large pool of international artists is enormously
beneficial to the course. While a stipulated minimum of technical
prowess is ensured, students will be encouraged to design
their own study programme.
Besides the three-year full-fledged Diploma, students also
have the option of a one-year Certificate Course (the Foundation
Year), or short-term intensive modules on light design, digital
arts and arts management.
Reputed teachers of Indian physical traditions, Contemporary
Dance, Ballet and other movement techniques, Choreographers
and leading practitioners in the fields of Digital & Sonic
arts, Light & Set Design, Art History and Critical theory
comprise the regular and visiting faculty.
The fee per year is Rs 60,000/- for Indian
applicants and Euro 3000/- for international
applicants. For talented Indian students from economically
underprivileged backgrounds, Attakkalari offers limited scholarships.
