Nadir at India Art Fair!
Diya Naidu, senior member of the Attakkalari Repertory Company will present her solo work Nadir at KHOJLIVE 12 on January 27th at Blue Frog, New Delhi. Entry is free.
Diya is an emerging choreographer and was the joint winner of the Robert Bosch Young Choreographers Award in 2010. Nadir was created under the auspices of this grant. The piece explores ideas of isolation and the inescapable fact of bondage within separation. It has been performed in Bangalore, Heggodu, Chennai and in Dusseldorf, Germany. More information here

Artistic Director in Australia
Jayachandran Palazhy, Attakkalari's Artistic Director has been invited by Critical Path and the Asian Art series, Melbourne Arts Centre to conduct workshops in Australia. Critical Path is a choreographic research and development centre for dance artists in New South Wales, Australia.
Jayachandran will teach a one week intensive workshop from January 30th to February 3rd funded by the Australia Council for the Arts and Arts NSW. He will also teach at the Melbourne Arts Centre on February 4th and 5th.
Attakkalari was invited by the National School of Drama to present its latest, full length, contemporary dance production MeiDhwani - Echoes of the Body in New Delhi. The performance was held on Friday, January 13th at 8:30 PM at the Abhimanch Theatre, National School of Drama. MeiDhwani has completed five successful performances in India - including shows in Bangalore, Shimoga, Chennai and Cochin.
Jayachandran Palazhy, Attakkalari's Artistic Director also conducted a contemporary dance workshop in New Delhi on Saturday January 14th from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Max Mueller Bhavan.
Attakkalari's Artistic Director - Jayachandran Palazhy and a senior member of the Repertory Company - Diya Naidu were invited by the Goethe-Institut Bangladesh, the cultural wing of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. They conducted a contemporary dance workshop from January 6th to 10th in Dhaka.
As part of its Sanchaari Mobile Theatre initiative, Attakkalari toured Chennai, Shimoga and Cochin in November-December, 2011. The tour included performances of the Attakkalari Repertory Company's latest full-length production - MeiDhwani and works by Young Choreographers.
The tour also included contemporary dance workshops and an installation of NAGARIKA, Attakkalari's seminal research series.
Attakkalari's latest research project in the NAGARIKA series on Kalarippayattu is now available on DVD! The NAGARIKA series is conceived as an integrated information system on Indian performance and physical traditions.
The interactive DVD attempts to showcase the body concepts and movement principles embedded in Kalarippayattu as articulated by the masters of the form. It is the outcome of a 3 year research project 'Rediscovering the Kalarippayattu Spectrum' supported by Ford Foundation. The DVD features students and masters from Hindustan Kalari, Choorakkody Kalari, C.V.N Kalari and EPV Kalari.
